A GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF THE BODHISATTVA JNANAKETU
Tibeto-Chinese, Qianlong Mark and Period (1736-1795)
Finely cast seated in dhyanasana on a lotus base with the lowered right hand holding a jewel, the hair worn in long plaits and gathered up into a chignon behind the five-leaf diadem, the face with serene expression flanked by pendent earrings, the base inscribed with seven-character Qianlong mark on a cartouche at the front of the base, the base sealed and incised with the visvavajra

Lot Essay

This figure is identified by the characters Zhihuiding Pusa inscribed on the edge of the lotus base (Jnanaketu in Sanskrit). The reverse of the base has a further four-character inscription which reads yujia genben, 'central to the study of yoga tantra'.
