The unusual combination of tidal dial and moon phase dial by Bristol maker suggest that this clock was made for one of the merchant traders of this busy west of England port.

A GEORGE II AND LATER DECORATED LONG CASE CLOCK

The oak case later decorated with gilt chinoiseries and a sailing ship on a dark green ground, the silvered brass dial with roman hours and arabic minutes, striking the quarter hour on bells, with moon phase, seconds and tidal dials, date aperture; decorated with cast dolphins the spandrels with putti bearing crowns, 244 cm. (96 in.) high, 51 cm. (20 in.) wide, 26 cm. (10 in.) deep
