AN ANGLO-INDIAN IVORY AND PENWORK WORK-BOX
Vizagapatam, 19th century
Decorated overall with ebonised bands of scrolling foliage, with radially reeded sloping top with acorn finial, enclosing a sandalwood-lined fitted interior with removable tray with eight open compartments, four wells with hinged lids and two crimson velvet pin-cushions, the lid with hinged well with oval plaque inscribed 'FROM C.M.S. TO E . E', on later ball feet
7½ in. (19 cm.) high; 16¾ in. (32.5 cm.) wide; 9¼ in. (23.5 cm.) deep
