Lot Essay

This photo was printed in 1976 by André Kertész from a glass-plate negative. Nicolas Ducrot explains that Kertész indicated the cropping of the photo for its publication in the Distortions book by demarcating its margins with an old and overused pen. The four lines are visible in the present lot which was used to make the printing plates for the book.
