CHÂTEAU RAYMOND LAFON
This growth was not classified in 1855 because it had only just been founded, in 1850 to be precise, by Raymond-Lafon whose name it bears. If there were to be another classification it would be well argued, by many recognized great tasters, that this estate should be made a first growth in the Sauternes commune. The 40 acre vineyard is planted to Sémillon and Sauvignon, and as tradition demands, is harvested by successive selection with between 4 and 8 passes depending on harvest conditions. Average yield is but 9 hectoliters per hectare (an amazing 1 glass of wine per vine!). Only the the best wines are selected and, depending on the year, upwards of 20 of the harvest is declassified.
Château Raymond-Lafon--Vintage 1979
Sauternes, cru bourgeois.
Lots 255-260 levels: into neck; some bottles with slight signs of overfill seepage
All lots in original wooden cases
Parcel: lots 255-260
"Good wine, plump, warm rich finish. ***" MB, Vintage Wine
