Lot 268 levels: one 2cm, one 2.5cm, three 3.5cm, three 4cm and two 5cm; one slightly corroded capsule; removed from banded, original wooden case. Lot 269 levels: seven 2.5cm, one 3cm and four 3.5cm. Lot 270 levels: one 2.5cm, four 3cm, three 3.5cm, three 4cm and one 4.5cm. Lot 269-270 in banded original wooden cases; band and tissue, since removed for inspection; consecutive serial numbers.
"At Manfred Wagner's La Tâche vertical in 1998, it had and open mature colour; its nose initially showing its age but soon opening up very fragrantly, with hints of tea, and strawberries; medium-sweet, full, lovely texture and delicious flavour, firm, dry, still tannic. (Aubert de Villaine told us that La Tâche suffered from hail in July just before veraison which reduced the crop). Perfection. Last tasted Sept 2001 ***** At its summit but still with years of life."
