Heitz Cellars, Martha's Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon--Vintage 1969
Napa Valley
Levels: bottom neck
Bottled in Spetember 1973 and I first tasted it in 1981. Then, and in 1985: rich, ruby-centred; great atomas, unmistakably spicy, pine, cinnamon and-though Joe Heits hated the word - eucalyptus. (I used to stay witn Martha and Tom May and their vienyard was surrounded by encalyptus trees which scented the air.)A big wine, high extract, fruit packed yet elegant. Most recently, at a monumental fine wine dinner hosted by Bill Gates at The Bistro, Buckland, Atlanta: still deep, velvety; immediately forthcoming nose, almost a caricature of itself; glorious flavour with lean and gingery fruit, good length. Vibrant. Last tasted Oct 1992 ***** Will still be magnificent. MB, Vintage Wine.
