Lot Essay

Helen Rose Huth (1837-1924), née Ogilvy, married the collector Louis Huth of Possingworth. The Huths were collectors of the works of George Frederick Watts and the American artist, James James McNeill Whistler (1834-1903). Helen Huth posed for Whistler for her portrait in 1872. Her portrait had been previously painted by Watts. Her portrait had been previously painted by Watts.
