After a silver model, the canted rectangular body and domed cover decorated with scrolled cartouches depicting pastoral landscapes alternating trellised panels, the manganese-red enhanced finial modelled as a seated gentleman holding a roll of tobacco, a Carotte, the flat inner press cover with four floral sprays and ball finial, a chip to underside press cover

Lot Essay

This tobacco box was intended to contain smoke tobacco (instead of snuff tobacco). The inner cover was used to press the tobacco in order to retain its scent and taste.
