Lot Essay

Thomas Chippendale described this form of table as a 'Breakfast Table' in his influential work The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, London, 1754, and this table is based on his design (pl. XXXIII). Another example is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (see D. FitzGerald, Georgian Furniture, London, 1969, no. 80).
