Lot Essay

Like all her sisters in the Fernie fleet, Laomene received a classical name ending in "... ' omene" when she was launched. A full-rigged iron three-master, she was built by Potter's of Liverpool in 1880 and operated by H. Fernie & Sons until she disappeared from Lloyd's Registers in 1904, probably as the result of a sale to foreign owners. A large vessel whose home port was Liverpool, she was registered at 1,797 tons and measured 263 feet in length with a 39 foot beam.
