Lot Essay

The Boboli gardens were built at the Medici's Pitti Palace in c.1550. There are several paths leading through the gardens to the top of the hill above Florence. From this position, Robert Henry Cheney painted this view of the Duomo (illustrated), seen through the tall cypress trees.
