A SEVRES PLATE (ASSIETTE UNIE)
Date letter PP for 1792 above blue interlaced L's mark, painter's mark for Commelin below, incised 24
The center with a bouquet of roses and cornflowers within a gilt-edged blue band further enamelled with white 'pearls', and a concentric blue fillet enriched arlong the edge with tiny gilt dots, the border with a band of cornflowers alternate with pink roses between narrower bands of gilt and blue dots (pois bleu)

Lot Essay

Michel-Gabriel Commelin is recorded at Sèvres as a flower painter 1768-1802.

The present plate may be a sample or échantillon, as there is nor record of a full service with this exact decoration having been made, although several were produced in a similar spirit.
