CAYMUS - SPECIAL SELECTION
Named after the Caymus Indians and founded by Chuck Wagner in 1972. Chuck himself having come from an old Napa family who began farming in the region in the early 1900s. The first vines were planted in the 1940s and as most farmers did the simply sold their grapes off, finally Chuck deciding they were simply too good. The Special Selection Cabernet began in 1975 and quickly established itself as one of the regions finest wines. Today few would argue that little has changed, still a family business, still a great wine, year in, year out.
Caymus Vineyards, Special Selection, Cabernet Sauvignon --Vintage 1985
Napa Valley
In original carton
"It reveals a lavishly oaked, smoky, jammy, blackcurrant-scented nose, sweet, round, glycerin-imbued, full-bodied flavors, and excellent purity, ripeness, and length. Other bottles have been more concentrated and complex, but who's complaining? It was tasted in a flight with the 1985 Spottswoode and 1985 Joseph Phelps Eisele which may have overwhelmed it. The 1985 Caymus Special Selection is fully mature and capable of lasting 10-15 more years." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #98 (Apr 1995)
