signed Butterfield AParis, the folding gnomon with 40-60° scale and bird-shaped pointer, the horizon plate with hour scales for 43°, 46° and 49° and glazed compass with blued-steel needle and eight points initialled, the underside engraved with latitudes for eighteen continental cities and towns, in an octagonal red plush-lined and fishskin-covered wooden case with push-button catch and two brass hooks and eyes (warped) -- 8.5cm.
