No.11 Valseuse, a Roullet & Decamps musical automaton figure of a ballerina
with Simon & Halbig 1078 bisque head, shoulder plate and hands, pierced ears, cotton lashed blue eyes, brown mohair wig, pearl necklace and garland of flowers; as the music plays she turns her head, moves from the waist from side to side and pirrouettes on one toe, on blue velvet covered base --19¼in. (49cm.) high (redressed, movement sluggish and new baseboard)
Provenance
This automata was bought in an antiques shop in Stratford-Upon-Avon. The vendor was informed that it was formerly from Compton Verney, the former seat of Lord Willoughby de Broke, in Warwickshire. Compton Verney is now transformed to a gallery of international standing and open to public in March 2004.
