Lot Essay

The daughter of the artists Francis Henry ('Fra') and Jessie Newbery, Mary Newbery studied at Glasgow School of Art. She painted flowers and her early work is influenced by that of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, who was a close friend (see lots 121 and 123).
