A FINE ENGLISH DUELLING RAPIER circa 1640
With slender tapering blade of flattened diamond section changing to stiff diamond section at the forte, short ricasso, blackened iron hilt of very slender rectangular bars, comprising symmetrical cup-guard formed of a pair of sprung-in plates pierced with a delicate trellis pattern, each plate-ring linked to a pair of arms and to the base of the quillons at a common point, the latter unusually looped and continuing inwards to join the base of the cup, tall fluted pommel, and moulded grip bound with patterned wire and 'Turk's Heads'
