The first circa 1530-50; the second 17th/18th Century
The first with axe-blade pierced with quatrefoil and formed with oblique straight cutting-edge, flat rear fluke with cusped rear edges top and bottom, stout central spike of stiff diamond section and boldly struck with a mark on one side at the neck, and open socket extending to a pair of long straps: on its original staff (the lower 14in replaced), studded with domed nails at the top and struck three times with an arsenal mark; and the second with heavy head formed with a convex edge on a long curved socketed neck, and punched with a falchion device on one side: on later staff
