A RARE ITALIAN (LOMBARDIC) GOTHIC REINFORCE FOR THE LEFT COWTER (GUARDABRACCIO)
Possibly mid-15th Century
Rough from the hammer and formed in one piece, drawn out to a sharp conical point over the elbow, pierced for a bolt, and the edges left plain except for a short inward turn at the lower leading edge above the joint of the elbow (later lining rivets, chemically cleaned throughout)
