With browned twist octagonal Whitworth barrel of target weight rifled with eight grooves, the top flat matted over the forward 13¼in., signed in full, stamped 'Whitworth Patent' immediately ahead of the breech, fitted with blued iron hood for an adjustible fore-sight (blade missing), fine blued Westley Richards Patent back-sight duel calibrated to 400 and 1000 yards, the bed adjustible for windage and calibrated on a white metal scale, blued breech chamber with blued hinged cover carrying the cartridge plunger on the inside, the outside engraved with scrollwork and inscribed 'Westley Richards Patent', signed engraved bolted lock dated within the Westley Richards triangular trademark at the rear and fitted with small circular stop engaging the breast of the hammer, figured walnut half-stock (some bruising, a small repair on the right-hand side at the breech chamber), chequered pistol-grip with engraved steel cap, chequered fore-end, and raised cheek-piece, engraved blued steel mounts including trigger-guard decorated with a lion and butt-plate incorporating a small trap with hinged cover, case-hardened trigger-plate with engraved pineapple finial, chequered trigger, horn fore-end cap, oval escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons each of silver, original ramrod, and some original finish, Birmingham proof: in original mahogany 'coffin' case with key and one original numbered breech-plug (one interior fitting block replaced, minor cracks, handle missing) and the lid with three manufacturer's labels giving printed instructions for loading, use and maintainance
