A PAIR OF IRISH PERCUSSION COAT PISTOLS BY WM. AND JN. RIGBY, DUBLIN; AND AN IRISH FLINTLOCK TRAVELLING PISTOL BY HOLLAND, DUBLIN
The first circa 1835-40; the second circa 1810-20
The first each with sighted barrel inscribed 'Dublin' and struck with police census marks within the sighting groove, platinum breech lines and plug, engraved breech tang, signed back-action lock engraved with characteristic scroll and border patterns, figured walnut full stock with chequered 'fishtail' butt, the latter inset with a silver oval engraved en suite with the lock, stirrup ramrod, and silver escutcheon engraved with owner's crest (the steel parts with later blued finish, the stocks each bruised and cracked); the second with 11-bore rebrowned short barrel inscribed 'Dublin' and bearing census marks within the sighting groove, signed plain bevelled lock fitted with safety-catch, roller and 'French' cock, figured walnut full stock, pineapple-chequered butt, plain brass mounts, ramrod, and vacant silver escutcheon
