A PAIR OF BOHEMIAN LONG FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOLS BY (JOHANN) GODTFRID BREIDFELTER À CARLSBAD
circa 1710-20
With signed swamped heavy barrels each with brass fore-sight, octagonal breech engraved with a warrior in the antique style, a pair of scrolling griffons rising from beneath, brass vent and the tang incorporating an iron back-sight, brass bevelled locks engraved with putti seated within trophies-of-war, carved figured walnut full stocks decorated with raised mouldings over their full length (minor cracks and chips, one with small repair beneath the pommel and the fore-end replaced foreward of the rear ramrod-pipe, evidently an 18th Century repair), full brass mounts, the trigger-guards and pommels decorated with engraved border ornament, the latter also with domed lion mask caps, the escutcheons and side-plates each cast in low relief with pierced designs of scrolls and grotesques, faceted ramrod-pipes, horn fore-caps, and one retaining its original ramrod
