Lot Essay

Jef (Joseph Maria Thomas) Lambeaux (d. 1908) was a leading Belgian sculptor at the end of the 19th century. With its sinuously entwined mermaids and sea creatures, his most famous work, the Brabo fountain in Antwerp, is considered a precursor to the Art Nouveau movement.
