A large Castelli maiolica two-handled polychrome portrait jar
SECOND QUARTER 16TH CENTURY, POMPEO WORKSHOP
Of Orsini Colonna-type, painted in bright colours, depicting a half-length portrait of an elderly white-bearded man in noble attire reserved on a blue ground, flanked by two blue-ground panels with yellow arabesques, the pinched neck inscribed with stylized Gothic on a yellow-ground cartouche, the handles enhanced in green, the pinched base with a foglie motifs, the white ground reverse with sketchy stylised blue scrolls (replaced wooden foot, with associated repairs)
