Lot Essay

The present watch is one of the first models of reference 6238 as its dial is still featuring the designation "Oyster Chronograph" and "Anti-Magnetic" as well as both telemetre and tachymetre scales. These characteristics are typical features of the preceding reference 6234.
Reference 6238, the immediate predecessor of reference 6239, the first Cosmograph Daytona model, was made in stainless steel, 18K gold as well as a small series in 14K gold destined for the North American market. For an exceedingly rare example in 14K gold and with original black dial see lot 204 in this auction.
