4° (186 x 136mm). Type-ornament title border, type-ornament and other head- and tailpieces, historiated and decorative initials. (Faint dampstain at upper edge, expertly repaired tear in one leaf.) 18th-century sprinkled calf, sprinkled edges (rebacked).

FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH. Diodorus's world history is only partially preserved. This edition - the only English edition printed in the 16th century - consists of books 18-20, focussing on the successors of Alexander the Great. Further selections appeared in 1653, but it was not until 1700 that the full known text was published in English translation. Hoffmann I, 563; STC 6893.
