2° (319 x 196mm). Title printed in red and black, section titles, woodcut ornamental and factotum initials. (Privilege leaf and last leaf mounted on blank side.) Contemporary probably London binding in the style of Samuel Mearne, gold-tooled red morocco, shaped compartment on sides, floral, star, and pointillé tools, gilt edges (neat repairs at head and tail of spine, corners bumped, a few minor surface repairs); modern slipcase. Provenance: Mr. Elstobb (gift inscription on flyleaf dated 12 May 1685 to:) -- John Ashton -- Dr. Horne (1784 inscription on flyleaf) -- Dartrey (bookplate).

A HANDSOME RESTORATION BINDING. Attributed to Samuel Mearne in an early description, the present binding has similiar but not identical tools to those on Mearne bindings reproduced in Nixon (Restoration bindings) and Foot, Davis Gift.
