EINSTEIN, Albert. Photograph signed (on lower margin, 'A. Einstein. [19]52'), a striking black and white portrait image showing the head in three-quarter profile of a relaxed and smiling Einstein outdoors, 250 x 205mm.
The photograph, like that in the succeeding lot, is understood to have been taken at a celebration, which took place at Princeton, of the building of the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical Centre in Jerusalem, the first medical school in Israel. The two photographs therefore commemorate Einstein's strong links with Israel in the year in which he was offered, and declined, the presidency of the country.
