A 'SIMULATED BAMBOO' PORCELAIN BRUSHPOT
DAOGUANG FOUR-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1821-1850)

The brushpot is of cylindrical form, the exterior carved with the Daoist Immortal, Ma Gu, dressed in a voluminous flowing robe, holding a ruyi to her shoulder and looking at a nearby mythical beast with finely carved long mane, seated on its haunch with one paw raised, amidst a pair of bats in flight and wispy clouds, covered with a caramel-yellow enamel to imitate bamboo, further decorated on the mouth rim and foot rims with stippled light-brown enamel to simulate bamboo grain, the interior and base with a transparent glaze, the concave base bearing the incised reign mark
