QIANLONG SIX-CHARACTER SEALMARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)

Well potted after an archaic bronze hu vase with a broad waisted neck, ribbed globular body and flared foot, the shoulder moulded with three ram-head mock-handles, all under a crackled pale grey glaze with minor original glaze pulling

Previously sold in these Rooms, 1 October 1991, lot 804.
Monochrome vases of this kind have been recorded with a variety of glazes. A similar vase from the Walters Collection was illustrated by S. Bushell, Oriental Ceramic Art, col. pl. LXXVII. See also the imitation ruyao vase of hu-shape, exhibited in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, Special Exhibition of Qing Dynasty Monochrome Glazed Porcelain, 1981, no. 88; and the teadust-glazed version from the T.Y. Chao Family Collection, sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 18 November 1986, lot 99.
