A CHENGHUA-STYLE DOUCAI WINECUP
YONGZHENG SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN DOUBLE-SQUARES AND OF THE PERIOD (1723-1735)

Thinly potted and delicately decorated with eight lanca characters supported on lotus blooms of contrasting colours, issued from undulating stems with trefoil leaves and iron-red buds, all above a border of ruyi lappets encircling the base, the interior plain
2 1/2 in. (6.2 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

The present lot is possibly one of the smallest of this pattern. Similar cups with the Yongzheng reign mark within double squares are recorded. Cf. one in the Hong Kong Museum of Art, included in the exhibition catalogue The Wonders of the Potter's Palette, 1984, no. 46. Another one was sold in these Rooms, 1 May 2000, lot 731.
