Lot Essay

There is a monument to Leven Bufkin and his wife Anne in Otham church, Kent. Under the English law of arms a right of arms passes to all male descendants, so conceivably the portrait could be of his sons Ralph (d.1639) or Henry (who predeceased his father leaving two sons).
