CHURCHILL, Sir Winston Spencer (1874-1965) -- NORMANDY BEACHES, 1944. Autograph signature, ('Winston S. Churchill') dated 20 July [1944], in a visitors' book belonging to the First Lieutenant of MTB 730, which conveyed Churchill from Cherbourg peninsula to the Mulberry harbour at Arromanches, for his return by cruiser to Great Britain. The book contains 190 other signatures, of naval officers, many from 'H.M.S. Attack' or from MTBs, and including General Hastings, 1st Baron Ismay, Churchill's Chief of Staff, signatures dated from 24 June 1944 to 31 June 1945, oblong 4to, blue leather gilt, with presentation inscription to 'M.T.B. 730'. Completed on 28 April 1944, MTB 730 continued with the 63rd MTB flotilla until April 1946.
