Lot Essay

The present composition is comparable to the signed and dated painting sold at Sotheby's, Amsterdam, 12 November 1996, lot 17. Another signed version is recorded at the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie, The Hague, as being in the collection of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Pitsch, Düsseldorf, 1986.

We are grateful to Mrs. Marijke de Kinkelder of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie, The Hague for confirming the attribution on the basis of a transparency.
