Sale room notice
We are grateful to Dr Bernard Schnackenburg for confirming the attribution on the basis of a transparency. He compares the work to an early, signed picture by Isaac van Ostade that was in 1928 in Amsterdam (see Catalogue de Nouvelles Acquisitions de la Collection Goudstikker, May/July 1928, no. 28), and dated 1640. Dr Schnackenburg dates the present lot also in 1640.
