Contemporary half calf (rebacked). FIRST EDITION. Provenance: Stephan Henry Thomson (signed on front endpaper 1863) - Mark Everard Pepys (armorial bookplate).

An attractive copy of Churchill's famous contemporary work on Nelson. This particular copy was probably owned by Admiral Sir Thomas Boulden Thompson (1766-1828), one of Nelson's captains, who later became Comptroller of the Navy. It was handed down through the family, in 1863 and by Midshipman, later Captain, Stephen Henry Thompson, see inscription.
