Lot Essay

In the early 1960s, Bulgari created the oval evening bag. Its distinctive oval outline and voluminous form set it apart from the more conventional jewelled evening bags. In fact, they were so popular that clients often had to be put on a waiting list. Initially designed in gold they came in a variety of materials such as tortoiseshell, which effectively combines a sophisticated brown with an attractive softness in tone and pattern.
