Accompanied by a certificate of registration as Tokubetsu Kicho Token [Especially precious sword] no. 19991 on 23 September 1956 and Tokubetsu Kicho Kodogu [Especially precious sword-fittings] no. 40 on 27 September 1964, both issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai [Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword].
The smith is believed to have been named Kondo Sukezaemon, one of a line of smiths of the same name in Noshu Province descended from Tofuji of Yamato (active late 14th century). He migrated to Owari Province some time during the Keicho era (1596-1615), moving to work in Nagoya in 1628. It was probably at this time that he was invested with the title Tango no kami. He died in 1663 aged 85.
