Each leaf measures 22.2 x 13.3 cm (8 3/4 x 5 1/4 in.)
Signed: Juqu Weishi, with one seal of the artist
End of album mounted with a letter from Chen Zhuo (1733-?) to Fan Eting (Fan Yongqi, 1727-1795), thanking Fan for allowing Chen to view the album.
Inscription on the album by Kiang Tongshu (1723-1815), and dated wuxu year (1778), with one seal
Fourteen collectors' seals, including eight of Wen Peng (1498-1572), two of Fan Yongqi, and one of He Qunyu (19th century)
Notes:
1. Zhangyu, sobriquets Tianyu, Boyu and Juqu Weishi, was a native of Hengzhou. As a Taoist priest, he had another name, Zhenjuzu. Zhang was a man of erudition, and his poems, prose, calligraphy and paintings were of the highest rank in the Yuan Taoist school.
2. Zhou mi, sobriquets Gongjin, Caochuan, Xiaozhai and Bianyang Xiaoweng, was proficient in poetry. Yunyan Guoyan lu was one of his many writings on paintings and calligraphy.
3. Chen Zhuo, sobriquet Yingzhi and Wuxuan, was a native of Huzhou. He was an adept calligrapher and landscape painter. His Xianggun Zhai Yuxiang Bian, records of all exquisite pieces he had ever seen, was completed in the forty-seventh year of the Qianlong era (1782).
4. Fan Yongqi was an adept calligrapher, particularly in the Zhuan and li shu, as well as a seal carver. He collected correspondence of Ming artists.
5. Despite having Zhang Yu's signature and seal, this album may have been penned by an anonymous Yuan artist, judging from the style of the calligraphy. The corrections marked in red ink might have been made by Wen Peng and Liang Tongshu.
