Lot Essay

The son of Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones (1833-1898), Philip was a painter of portraits and topographical views. His sitters included artist friends such as Watts and Poynter, and major figures from the worlds of literature and music such as his cousin Rudyard Kipling and the librettist Sir Walter Gilbey.
