AN APULIAN RED-FIGURED COLUMN-KRATER
CIRCA 350-325 B.C.
The obverse with a bejewelled draped female figure seated on a pile of rocks, holding a filled cista in her raised left hand, an oinochoe in her lowered right, a nude youth standing before her with his right leg raised, a mantle over his left shoulder, grapes in his lowered left hand, a wreath in his raised right, tendrils framing the scene, a rosette, a fillet and two bucrania in the field; the reverse with two draped youths, each holding a staff, an altar between them, two pairs of jumping weights and a writing tablet in the field; a band of meander and dotted saltire squares below the scenes, a double row of dots on either side, vertical lines above, ivy and berries on the neck, chevrons on the exterior of the rim, wave on its upper surface, palmettes on the top and sides of the handle-plates, details in added white and yellow
