Pierre Szekely (1923-2001), d'origine hongroise, suit des études aux Beaux-Arts de Budapest et apprend la sculpture sur bois. C'esten 1953 que sa carriére s'amorce vèritablement avec sa premiére sculpture publique, suivie de nombreuse autres tant en France que dans le reste du monde, notamment au Mexique, au Japon, en Hongrie. Entre 1953 et 1956 il réalise en compagnie d'André Borderie, sa première sculpture-architecture, Le Bateau Ivre, à Saint-Marcellin dans l'Isère. Construction qui fait écho aux réflexions du groupe 'Espace'. Il réalisera d'autres projets architecturaux dans la même veine, notamment la chapelle du Carmel à Valenciennes (1963-1966). Passionné par la sculpture sur pierre, il invente de nouvelles techniques comme la taille au jet de flamme supersonique. Il recevra plusieurs décorations dont la Légion d'Honneur en 1998 pour l'ensemble de son oeuvre
Pierre Székely (1923-2001), born Hungarian and naturalized French by André Malraux in 1972, studied Fine Arts in Budapest where he learned wood carving. He arrived in 1946 in Paris and remained in France since. His carreer started really in 1953 with his first public sculpture followed by numerous monumental works in France but also in foreign countries such as Hungaria, Mexique, Japan. Between 1953 and 1956, he realised in collaboration with André Borderie his first architecture-sculpture, 'Le Bateau Ivre', in Saint-Marcellin, near the city of Grenoble (Isère). Construction that was echoing the preoccupations of the groupe 'Espace'. He realized other projects in the same spirit, such as the Chapelle of the Carmel in Valenciennes (1963-1966). Passionate by stone carving, he invented new technics amongst which carving with a supersonic flame. He was awarded with numerous decorations and prizes, the last one being the Légion d'Honneur for his whole work in 1998
