Lot Essay

Vasilii Vasil'evich Samoilov (1813-1887), was a respected dramatic actor famed for his interpretations of Hamlet, Shylock and Ivan the Terrible at the Alexandrinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. He premiered as King Lear in 1858.
