Lot Essay

Girl Gang was a 1950s bad-girl flick that combined the usual elements of girls in tight tops, lots of parties, sex and drugs. The film stands out however, for its shockingly detailed depiction of heroin use - it featured a scene that literally provided a step-by-step guide on how to inject the drug. The scene culminates in the drug dealer injecting one of the girls with a needle just above her garter-belt. Part of this scene is depicted on the poster for the film, however it proved too controversial even for the exploitation industry and the man and needle were removed from the final image.
