BEETHOVEN, Ludwig van (1770-1827). Document signed (in gothic and roman script, 'Ludwig van Beethoven'), Vienna, 25 February 1827, a receipt for his half-yearly allowance of 240 gulden of Conventions Münze payable from Prince Rudolf Kinsky's treasury in Prague, countersigned with a confirmation of his residency by the priest C. Santner, numbered at head '82' and stamped ('30 Kreutzer W'), one page, folio, BEETHOVEN'S SEAL ('L.V.B.') IN RED WAX, papered seal.
From the last months of Beethoven's life: the composer's receipt for his last half-yearly allowance from 1 September 1826 to 1 March 1827. Beethoven was already seriously ill by 25 February 1827 (his abdomen was drained of fluid for the fourth time on the 27th); he died just a month later, on 26 March. R
