Lot Essay

Hollstein records two states of this remarkable print, an early German echo of Andrea Pollaiuolo's famous 'Battle of Nude Men', created four years before the beginning of the Peasants' Revolt. As the texts printed below the subject, differing between the first and second states, have been trimmed off, it is not possible to determine the state of the present impression.
