Lot Essay

The Venetian writer and artist Count Antonio Maria Zanetti is best known for his chiaroscuro woodcuts (cf. Bartsch XII; Le Blanc II, p. 259). This apparently unrecorded series of small etchings, dedicated to the London physician and patron of the arts Dr. Richard Mead (1673-1754), appears to have been a private entreprise, printed only in a very small edition.
