Lot Essay

Friendly Societies were mutual aid societies, which evolved from the late 18th century, by 1801 there were at least 5,000. Brass society emblems were commonly produced in the West Country, as decorative elements representative of the name of the inn, inwhich the society members of the particular local parish met.
