A Pointer on the Scent

Osthaus like painting Pointers with their clearly exposed musculature which gave him the opportunity to express his feeling for articulation and structural form in his paintings. His close study of the animals from life meant he captured their form - the pasterns and hocks, sprung rib cages and washboard backbones - with exact precision.
